My New Sandals From Steve Madden

Please Welcome from England: UFO!

I'm not referring to an unidentified flying object.  UFO is a lesser-known hard rock band from England that had its heyday in the late 1970's and early 1980's.  I call this period of time, from 1974-1983, the golden age of hard rock.  Well, asides aside, I've been listening to UFO for a little while now, and they are pretty damn good, boy I tell you huwhat.

Why so serious?

You can tell they were influenced by early hard rock and heavy metal bands like Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple, but fall somewhere closer to the the popular rock of the time, like The Who (and even Foreigner, some songs).  This gives them a unique sound, but at the same time they are easily classified as just straight-on hard rock.

This is their heaviest song -- most of their stuff has more of a
rock-n-roll/pop-rock feel to it (see video below).

Good Singer? Check.
Good Bass Player? Check.
Sick Guitarist? Check.
Drummer? Check.
Really tight 70's pants? Check.

They never made it huge, like on the level of a Led Zeppelin or Deep Purple, but they did produce names like Pete Way and Michael Schenker.  You may have heard of Schenker -- he is a well-respected guitarist in the hard rock community and went on the form his own band, The Michael Schenker Group (which is often referred to just as "MSG," funny enough), which had modest success in the 1980's.

(terrible sound quality -- but they don't have many good videos)

This is another good one (better quality):

I was surprised to learn that I hadn't already done a post exclusively about UFO.  Well, now they get the justice they deserve.
